The
Super Fun Superfund Variety Show presents the latest edition of its circus-meets-sustainability cabaret,
Saturday April 21 in Gowanus, Brooklyn—featuring live performances by underground literary sensation
Chris Gethard (
A Bad Idea I’m About to Do), punk-rock puppeteer
Carla Rhodes,
and a cavalcade of comedy, circus arts, magic, music, death-defying
physical daredevilry, a live-format bad advice column, and more! Hosted
by sibling ukulele sensations Ellia and Josh Bisker (of
Sweet Soubrette and
Cobra Gold), April 21’s Super Fun promises genre-bending performances in a one-of-a-kind setting: the
Film Biz Prop Shop,
a 10,000-square-foot upcycling center filled to bursting with sets,
props, and furniture reclaimed from film and TV shoots, all for sale to
the general public. One hand-selected mystery treasure will be awarded
to a member of the audience, and other fabulous prizes, tasty treats,
cheap drinks, and second-to-none performers, from the silly to the
sublime, make the Super Fun Superfund Variety Show a night of unbeatable
entertainment.
Local business owners and Occupy Wall
Street protestors can contact Super Fun Variety, giving their business
name or working group, to be listed for half-price admission at the
door.
Super Fun Variety’s previous shows have sold out
to standing-room-only crowds. We have featured an incredible array of
top-flight talents, including world-renowned variety performers,
internationally acclaimed circus artists, and the 2012
Academy Award-nominated
film short, “Time Freak.” Super Fun Variety applies the mission of the
Film Biz Prop Shop—to “reuse, repurpose, and upcycle”—to the wondrous
store itself, transforming its treasure-filled warehouse space into an
incubator for emerging talent, and an opportunity for filmmakers,
musicians, variety performers, and other artists to test and refine new
work in front of a live audience. The show’s name refers to the
Gowanus Canal’s
designation as a federal Superfund site, and reflects our irreverent
spirit, our strong social consciousness, and our goal of contributing to
an environmentally and creatively sustainable local community.
A Super Cub C70 sighted in New York City! I love, love, love these little bikes. They're ubiquitous around Japan, indestructible, super comfortable, and adorable. I got to ride a friend's family's cub around all of Western Japan in a series of increasingly madcap adventures, and miss the thing as if it were a friend I'd left behind there.
